Volkswagen Repair: 97 Golf trunk lock jammed, wd 40, tiny springs

Question
Hi - My 97 Golf truck lock seems to be jammed.  The key does not rotate in any direction when inserted into the key slot.  The lock can be pushed in with no problem but it can't turn.  I do not have the automatic door lock so I can't use this to unlock the trunk.  I was wondering if there is some sort of trunk security button that I accidently depressed or if the lock is broken.

Answer
Hi Dania;
The lock is either completely broken, or it's just seized up with dirt, and grease in the little tiny springs, and tumblers that are used to "code" the lock.  Try spraying a plentiful, generous quantity of WD-40, with the little red swizzle stick into the lock opening, and run the key in and out a few times.  Then try to turn the lock, and try to turn the lock at differing depths of the key.  Like put the key in a little, and try to turn it, and then a little more, and try to turn, and then a little more, etc.  I have a feeling that if you use this procedure for 5 to 10 minutes it will free the little brass tumblers so they work, and you can open your trunk.  If not then have the dealer, or a locksmith open the trunk, and rebuild the lock mechanism for you.  That way your only out a can of WD-40, even if it isn't just a seized lock tumbler.  Good luck, Dania.  I hope this helps, some.
