Volkswagen Repair: 2003 VW Jetta TDI, golf tdi, vw jetta

I'm writing on behalf of my mother who recently had to replace the brakes and rotors on her Jetta.  The car only has 31K miles on it.  Doesn't that seem unusual?  I drive a 2002 Golf TDI and have 71,000 miles with original breaks and rotors.

70,000 miles is a whole lot of miles for the rear pads. The fronts will last some times 100K although rare. Rear pads usually need to be replaced 20K to 50K depending on the driver, the engine and the brake system. A 2002 Golf TDI and a 2002 Jetta may be similar but can have major differences especially if the car is newer or older than 2002. This is normal mileage for the rear pads to be replaced not the front.
