Volkswagen Repair: 2002 VW Jetta 1.8T - 3 problems, windshield wipers, coolant level

Question
Hi John,
Your threads look excellent! I have 3 questions, any advice is greatly
appreciated.
1) My windshield wipers have been acting up for several months, have trouble
getting going after moving a couple inches, or stutter before moving, or stall
mid-stroke.  They are fine when they get going. Sometimes pulling on them
helps! Is this a motor problem?  Is changing the motor the same process as
your 4/11 answer about fixing the arms?
2) In the winter, whenever it was below freezing, the coolant temperature
light came on first thing after starting the car.  No warning light if restarting
when the car was warmed up, and none since temp has been above freezing.
Does this light ever indicate "too cold," or is there something else wrong/
malfunction?
3) My high beams: can pull the control arm towards me (the non-locking
position for "flashing" the high beams) and they work, but if I push away
towards the locking "on" position, the arm engages that position, but they
don't go on.  Do I need to replace this arm, and if so could you advise on how
to do so.
Thanks very much for any help on any of the 3 questions.

Answer
Sounds like the motor  is bad and I would replace it. The repair procedure is in my already answered questions.
The second question may be the coolant bottle problem. I would check the coolant level. If low top of the fluid.
If not then I would replace the coolant bottle. The sensor sounds like it is bad.
The third is a bad head light switch. First step is disconnect the battery then remove the air bag and steering wheel. To remove the air bag you have to get a small screw driver and stick it into the two holes and pry down on the tabs. I've seen many people ruin and tear the steering wheel so be careful. Then you have to have to have a tipple square drive tool size 12. Pull of the steering wheel Then the wiper switch and then the head light switch remember where all of the screws and electrical connecters go. After that then reinstall all the removed parts. Last step is to restore electrical power. If the air bag light is on then a scan tool has  to be used to turn it off or see what was left unplugged. If you cant get the air bag off or feel not to comfortable about the jog then take it to the dealer. This is a easy fix for someone with experience but can lead to many b ad results if something goes wrong.
