Volkswagen Repair: 2004 Golf Headlight, three notches, flat head screw

Question
I'm trying to change the headlight on my 2004 Golf, and am feeling a little cramped for space in there. Is it necessary to remove the battery to get at the driver-side bulb?

Answer
No you do not need to remove the battery. Take out the two screws for the trim cover. Take a flat head screw driver and move the 2 locking metal pieces off the second cover. Remove the cover. Now break your hand in two places to fit. Just joking but it is cramped. Remove the wire connector from the bulb. Twist the bulb lock to the left or on other golfs take the spring off and pull the bulb out. The new bulb has three notches on the outside of the plastic these need to be lined up so remember how they were before you pull it out. If you cant fit your arm down there then loosen the battery and move it back a inch or remove it completely. Reinstall at a reverse order of removal. Do not touch the glass or get the bulb wet. Oil or moisture will pop the bulb.
