Volkswagen Repair: VW GOLF 94 reverse lights not working., vw golf cl, oxnard st

I have a 94 VW Golf (CL) and all of a sudden the reverse lights stopped working, I have changed the bulbs for ones I know are working and have also checked and changed the fuse, I am still not having any joy.  There are three wires on the right hand cluster at the back that are not connected to anything, Black, Blue and Red, they don't appear to have come off from anywhere though?
I have akso taken off the surround to the gear stick to see if there is a switch there but can't locate a switch there that would operate the reverse lights.  All other electrical equipment is working fine in the tail light cluster.
Any help would be great as I am in Sweden and my language skills are not good enough to communicate with the mechanics here!

It sounds like your Golf is a manuel 5sp trans. The back-up switch is on the trans. It has two terminals on it. Make sure you are getting power and ground to the switch. If you are then change the switch. It is easy. Just unscrew it. I am Max's German Car located at 15020 Oxnard st Van Nuys CA 91411.
