Volkswagen Repair: GLI will not idle/run, air fuel mixture, air flow meter

Question
I have purchased a 1990 Jetta GLI 16V. It is not running at the moment. When i try to start it it turns over. If it starts it idles very rough. If i hit the gas when it is idleing it dies. I have changed the ecu, rotor, dist cap, new plugs, and checked the compression it is 210-215 across the board. Any help  or insight would be greatly appreciated

Answer
It sounds like a fuel problem. Or maybe you might have a major vaccum leak. See if you can hear a hissing noise when the car is running and check your intake boot for cracks and rips. You also might try adjusting the air fuel mixture which is located in between the fuel distributor and the air flow meter. Or can you hear a loud buzzing noise coming from your fuel pump area. Maybe your fuel pump is going bad or your prepump is bad or both.
