Volkswagen Repair: Alternator/Tranny, oxnard st, automatic tranny

Question
I have a 2000 jetta 2.0 with an automatic tranny.  I replaced the alternator and now the tranny does not shift properly into 4th.  The RPMs go up and then it slams into gear. I never had tranny problems before.  I did replace the alternator with the same 90 amp Bosch.

Answer
You most likely messed up your automatic transmission ECU. You have to be careful when you jump your car or fool around with the battery and or alternator in any way. I have seen this happen many times on your particular vehicle. All shifting is controled electronically. You probally are going to have to buy a new ECU.
