Volkswagen Repair: Ignition switch, starter relay, best bet

Question
I have an '89 Jetta with a manual transmission.  The problem I am encountering is that sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't.  The engine turns, but it doesn't start.  If I leave it alone for a period of time (about a half an hour)it will fire right up.  Could it be a problem with my ignition switch?  If not do you have any other possibilities that I may investigate? I should also mention that I had a cut off switch installed when I first bought it.

Thank you

Answer
Rashish, thank you for your question.  the best bet on your starting problem is probably with the starter or starter relay.  Also could be the fuel pump, coil spark plugs.  It can be the ignition switch but usually not.  Since you say the engine turns over but doesn't start.  You may also have a battery that is soon to die.
Hope that helps
