Volkswagen Repair: 95 Golf door panel removal, haynes manual, auto parts stores

Question
Hello

I'm trying to fix my locking system on my car. The central locking system still works and I can turn the alarm on if I lock the passengers side but I can't lock or unlock the drivers side with the key. I've been told a wire has come unhitched, but I can't seem to remove the door panel how do I do it?

Answer
Shay, thank you for your question.    I would get a copy of the Haynes manual or the Bentley manual.  I will use both the Haynes and Bentley in combination since the Bentley is the same manual that the dealerships use.  Both have a section on Body in which you should find the best way to get the door panel off.  Now, usually you will have several screws in the door handle but you will have to have a pry bar with a head of at least 1 ½ inch wide or even a tool called door panel remover (available at most auto parts stores) and slide that gently in to the gap between the door metal and the panel.  Every manufacturer including VW will hide a screw somewhere on the panel.  So it is best to get the manual to find out.
Hope that helps
