Volkswagen Repair: Idling problem for 69 Bug, long periods of time, vacuum leak

After letting my 1969 bug sit for a couple years I got it running this weekend after clearing the fuel line and replacing some fuel line tubing and filter.  After giving it a jump the car idled smoothly for 10 minutes.  When I tried to move it the car stalled out.  The battery was dead so I quit fo the day.

Yesterday, I jumped the car but it would not idle unless I continued to press the accelerator.  Once I would take my foot off the car would stall.

Tony, thank you for your question.  You may have a stuck or bad electromechanical valve on the carburetor, a vacuum leak, and probably are in need of a carburetor rebuild.  The spark should be white to blue, if it is orange to red that is bad.  Check the battery, especially if it has been sitting for all of this time. (they usually do go bad when dead for long periods of time and will not hold a charge for very long).
