Volkswagen Repair: 2001 VW BEETLE STARTER MOTOR, starter motor, solenoid

Question
I HAVE 49,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND AM BEING TOLD I NEED A NEW STARTER MOTOR.  IS THAT PREMATURE?

Answer
Duane, Thank you for your question.  That is WAY TOO early to go out.  A starter motor usually starts having problems around 90 to 125,000.  If the current starter is from the factory, VW SHOULD replace it.  But if it is a rebuilt one then it was probably a bad rebuild, which does happen.  You may have a solenoid that is going out instead.  That is always a possibility.
Hope that helps
