Volkswagen Repair: alarm/radio, computer glitches, alarm radio

1995 Cabrio
After getting a jump for drained battery, I mistakenly thought car was in neutral, but it was in gear and I killed the engine.  It did start up again, but now the radio display reads "safe" and is frozen there no matter what buttons I push.  (I would look in manual, but ex took it with him.)  It has never done this before!?

This situation can happen when the onboard computer glitches from jumpstarting.  Just as a side part of your question, every time I jumpstart a car, I shutdown every powered device except from hazards lights (when needed).
