Volkswagen Repair: leaky oil filter housing?, oil filter housing, haynes manual

Question
I've got a '95 VW Golf w/ 2.0 liter engine. I keep up on my oil changes and am not due for another til late Feb. But today I noticed my oil filter was leaking substantially--like a running drip, and worse when the engine is on. Popped the hood, took a look and it seemed to me that the filter had just come loose as the top of it was where the spillage was starting. Took it to Jiffy Lube (because I can't spare good work clothes for car repair) where the Jiffy Lube folks told me it was not the filter but the filter housing that was leaking and that this was something they were not equipped to fix.

So, how bad is this? I've been searching my Haynes manual--can't find a thing about it.

Answer
Michele,
I'm not sure but I think the filter housing is a bolt on item on this motor, so it shouldn't be too bad to replace, if it's cracked. I'd say if it's a running drip, I'd locate a good VW mechanic or shop in your area and have the car towed there. If it's not leaking really bad, you might be able to drive it there, just don't let it run out of oil. That'd be expensive! Good luck!
