Volkswagen Repair: 98 Jetta stall in wet snow, jetta gl, dry snow

Question
Hi,

My 98 Jetta GL has stalled twice in wet snow on the highway - After towing in about a day or so, it starts again.
It does fine in dry snow and cold.  New battery last year, and new belts two weeks ago.  Could it be distributor cap?  Fuel pump!  Help!!! Thank you.

Maureen

Answer
Hey Maureen,
I try to avoid working on VWs with antifreeze in them but I'd say you have some sort of wet ignition problem. The dist. cap is located down in front and low on the engine so water in the dist is a possibility. You may want to consider a major tune-up (cap & rotor, plugs and plug wires) just to get a good baseline. Good luck and let me know what happened! Thanks!
