Volkswagen Repair: warning light-malfunction indicator lamp, volkswagon passat w8, mileage intervals

on my way home i stopped to pick up my mail...i shut off my volkswagon passat/w8...when i got back in my car and started it this warning light came on and would not go off...i drove the 1/2 block to my home and parked it in the garage...i went out 15 minutes later and turned my car on again and that same warning light came on....can i drive my car to work tomorrow and then drive it again on monday to the vw service dept without causing any damage? thanks   katie cruse

If I'm not too late, which warning light are you referring to and what model VW? Some lights come on at certain mileage intervals as a service reminder for you to take the car in to the dealer. If that's the case, the mechanic can turn the light off after he work is done. Good luck!
