Volkswagen Repair: Horrible noise from wheel, rubber brake hose, vw fox

Question
I again am asking about the 88 VW FOX my rear drivers side wheel sounds as if the break has locked on the rotar. When driving (when it was driving) slow it sounded much like I was driving a snow plow, however when u got going a little faster the noise lulled down to a less noticable rubbing sound. What do u suppose the problem could be?

Your expertise would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Answer
If the wheel still turns, jack the car up and spin the wheel by hand while touching the rear axle close to the brake backing plate. If you feel a vibration, it's likely to be a bad wheel bearing. The other possiblity could be the brake locking up, caused by a bad wheel cylinder or collapsed rubber brake hose. Check it out and good luck!
