Volkswagen Repair: Rev counter not working, speedo cable, swithches

Question
Alright Paul,
Thanks for the answer to my previous question. It's a 1990 Golf GTI 8v 150,000 miles, which I bought a week ago and have numerous questions I have little mechanical knowledge but amkeen to learn and am able to do simple jobs. Firstly and the rev counter doesn't work. The prevoius owner said it's just the dial itself which needs replacing and there is a sound ressembling a springy vibration when the engine is revved does it sound like this is the case as i can order the part quite cheaply. Also the electric window swithches are permenantly illuminated (24/7). And finally the oil pressure light/led doesn't work. Any possible solutions/reasons for this barage of problems/questions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks alot Ed.

Answer
Ed,

It sounds like tach is wornout, but you'll need to remove the instrument cluster to replace it.  You'll need to reach in behind the speedo from above, to remove the speedo cable, before it can come out.  Change the LED while you have the cluster apart.

I'm not sure why the window switch lights stay on.  If they are on with the key removed, you might need a new ignition switch.

Good luck,

Paul
