Volkswagen Repair: VW Rabbit transmittion, vw rabbit, allen screw

Question
Im curious if you might know how to repair a VW Rabbit that is sutck in drive. Its a automatic. What steps might I go about fixing this car?

Answer
Tom,

You'll need to replace the shifter cable.

First loosen the allen screw in the shifter knob.

Then take off the cover and remove the cable clip, and cable from the shifter.

Then loosen the 13mm nut at the transmission under the battery at the front lever, and pull out that end of the cable.

Then remove the heat sheild above the exaust pipe and loosen the nuts holding the cable into the shifter housing, and slide out that end of cable.

Reverse to assemble.

Good luck,

Paul
