Volkswagen Repair: oil cooler, oil cooler, oil filter

Question
1989 jetta gtx 16v ...how do i change my oil cooler....?

Answer
Should be pretty straight forward.  I do know however that the hoses are permanetly attached to some of them so you have to replace the whole unit hoses and all. Thats for the external cooler.  If your talking about the water to oil cooler on top of the oil filter thats different.  You have to drain the collant and oil, take off the hoses and oil filter.  There is a large nut on the pipe that the oil filter screws onto if you get under the car and look up where the oil filter screws on you'll see it.  Undo that and the oil cooler will slide off.

Good Luck,
