Volkswagen Repair: overheating and lack of power on accelarating, combustion chambers, blaste

Question
v reg '1999' sharan 1.9 tdi- i've just had the turbo replaced, and the exhaust taken off and cleaned through ( as when the turbo went, oil was pushed through the exhaust making it smoke with oil seeping from the exhaust) also the vaulves have been reseated and the head pressure tested and skimmed - i took it out today only to have the tempreture rise, white smoke from the exhaust ( told this is residue left from exhaust cleanout, will subside with use) and on going up hill had to go down to first gear and struggled up at 10 mph. i continued on after 15 min stop with heaters on full blaste (as it started to overheat), made it home o.k ( started to overheat in traffic and accelaration as well)... any ideas? I think it maybe the thermostate or maybe radiator blokage...

Answer
White smoke usaully indicates that your headgasket has let go, and leaking coolant into the combustion chambers. Why did the turbo go?  Did the car overheat before the first turbo went?  I am guessing something broke, ie. waterpump, thermostat, waterpump belt, and the car overheated, blew the headgasket and the turbo.  I believe there are still further problems with your car and you should take it back to the place that replaced your turbo.  If you keep driving it the turbo will go again.

Overheating + turbo = very bad things.

Good Luck,
Ryan
