Volkswagen Repair: back fire thew carbuator@cluch drag, volkwagen beetle, pop pop pop


Question
I have a 64 volkwagen beetle valves are at .006 spark plug are at .026 points gap at .016 rpm at810 I have new plugs,wires,cap,roter,and coil.
I don't know if the motor is a 1600 or a 1500 but in idle there is a slite miss and under power reveing the motor there is a pop pop pop thought the carburator. I have sprayed starter fluid while running to the base of the intake and cardurator check for leaks there is no change in idle speed that is my first question.
The second question is about the tranaxle same car out of gear and running the cluch drages if cluch is not pushed in. I have tryed adgusting the cluch cable with no luck can you help me. This is my second Email ever so I hope everthing ok snd detailed enough.  

Answer
With the pop pop, try retarding the spark(turn the distributor clockwise  OR set the idle speed a wee bit higher OR lean out the fuel mixture by turning in the small brass set screw 1/4 turn.

With the clutch, the adjusting nut is behind the driver side rear tire on the trans lever.  It is usually a wing nut specifically for adjusting the pedal play.
