Volkswagen Repair: serpent belt change: 99 jetta, tensioner pulley, jetta

hi, i was wondering the proper way to move the tensioner to replace the serpent belt in a 4cylinder 1999 jetta. thanks alot for any help!!

The tensioner rotates on an eccentric.  The hole in it is off center so as you rotate it it pushes against the belt.  Rotate it counter clockwise to remove the belt and clockwise to tighten  But if you take the nut all the way off it makes no difference for it just holds the tensioner pulley down. it does not control the tension.  You have to push something against the wheel so the belt tightens up and tighten the nut.
