Volkswagen Repair: Warning lights; 69 VW, toot sweet, vw beetle

Question
I just bought a '69 VW Beetle, type 1 engine.  Shortly after buying it, the green light on the left of the speedometer began to light intermittently.  Now the red light on the right side is lit and stays on.  What are these indicator lights for?

Answer
Ooboy.  The green is for generating system -generator,regulator to battery.  When it is on something is not working anything from a slipping belt to a bad regulator and in between.  If the belt is on and the generator is turning then at least the cooling fan is working otherwise you'll cook the engine.  Otherwise it is not super important right now, I mean you can live without a working system provided you got a battery charger.
The red light means SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE  your oil pressure is not there.  No oil pressure guarantees a seized motor toot sweet.  That is your number 1 concern.  I'm letting you know quick
