Volkswagen Repair: Starter Replacement, volkswagen golf gti, bearing puller

Question
Hello,

I have a 1985 Volkswagen Golf/GTI with 243,000
miles on the Car and the Original starter died.
I have a Replacement Starter, But I have Questions about its Replacement....Is there another method of replacing the Bearing (The one on the end of the shaft) besides having to buy a Bearing puller?
And is there anything I should be careful about
as it looks like maybe ..one of the Bolts is part of the front engine mount?

Any Help from you..Would be most Welcome..

..Thank you very much...

Answer
Got the car broke in I see.  I know what you are talking about and no there is no other way to get that bushing out except with a puller.  But do you need to?  I have never had any problems at that end and my last car was a diesel with 720,000mi on it and the  starter was never a problem.  As it is a brass bushing, they soak up oil(micro amounts) so dab some oil on the end of the starter before you put it in there.
Yes, one of the bolts is connected to the engine mount but nothing will happed as it is also mounted on the fenders and on the transmission.  Goes in real slick.  Make sure your contact wires from the battery are nice and clean as you won't be touching this thing for many years.
Just be sure the battery cable to the battery post is the last thing you connect.
