Volvo Repair: 1989 volvo 760 tail light wiring, wiring schematics, jumper wire

Question
QUESTION: Hi I recently replaced my broken tail light with one from the 83-87 which has different wiring configuration than the 88-. I was wondering if you might have a wiring diagram for the earlier and later models. I've tried studying both circuit boards but it confusing. I just need to figure out which wires to switch around in the plug. My old boards are in bad shape and not working with out running jumper wire.

ANSWER: Matt, its not really confusing at all.  83-87 brake light is at the top right if you are looking at a left assembly.  All you have to do is take a test light and test all wires, turn signal, etc.  Have someone put there foot on the brake and test the wires.  The one that is lit will be the brake light.  Dont confuse it with the power wire.  Roger

QUESTION: I bought a light for a 760 83-87 to put on my 89 760. The plug for the light is configured differently. I know I need to change the configuration of the plug on the new light so that it will work in my car. I'm looking for the wiring diagrams so I can change the plug configuration.

The 83-87 light is different than the 89 but only in the plug. If you can tell me what each contact on the plug corresponds to I can make the switch.

Answer
Matt, if I had all that information, Id be rich.  I dont have the wiring schematics at home.  Thats why I told you to check it with a test light.  Very simple.  I hate Chiltons or haynes but if you need to get one, they have all the diagrams.  This is how I do my own stuff.  You want to learn, so take my advice and use the test light.  Roger
