Volvo Repair: 1997 Volvo S90 - timing belt, volvo s90, dirt particles

Question
A local repair shop just warned me that my timing belt (last changed at 71K) would soon need to be replaced...and that it would be a good idea to do the water pum at the same time. Agreeed? I'm getting quotes from $900 to $1100 for the two. Also ... anything else I should anticipate at about $140K? I had the serpentine belt replaced a few months ago. What about a transmission fluid flush / replacment?

Answer
So sorry for the late reply. I had a surgery and will be out for a while.
Yes, do the water pump. Also do the idler and tensioner pulleys for the timing belt. Basically, anything it spins. As far as trans. lots of ideas on that. My basic rule, if you have not been changing every 30-60k, touching it may dislodge grime and dirt particles.(Good) They are released into the fluid stream and can get caught in valve body orfices causing problems. (Bad) Soo, if you have not done it regularly, you are kind of rolling the dice.
