Volvo Repair: re: air mass meter, control meter, platinum wire

Question
Hi. i recently went tthrough a creek with my 1989 volvo 240.
the engine sucked up water. changed oil, plugs and points. after exchanging the throttle control meter the engine started again but doesn't rev up. only after about 5 min of very subtle increase the engine managed to rev up a bit more but would die if foot taken of the accelarater.
is it possible that the air mass meter is damaged and replacemnet is the solution?

thanks for yr thoughts and tips

Answer
Thomas, hi. What is this? (after exchanging the throttle control meter)Do you mean air mass meter? If it did get submerged it can affect it. Pry off the squarish black plastic cover on top of it and get it all dryed out. Shop air or a hairdryer works great. Try not to disturb any of the components in there. Also, look through the barrel at the light and make sure the platinum wire inside is intact. It's about the diameter of a hair and hard to see. If intact, spray brake clean through the body to try to clean off wire. Do NOT touch the wire with ANYTHING other than the spray. Dry all and retry it. If no change, try starting the vehicle with the air mass meter disconnected and see if it will rev. up and idle. Then report back to me, K?
