Volvo Repair: V70 T5 rear main seal, air intake hose, crankcase breather

Question

"I own a 2001 V70 T5 automatic with about 83K miles on it. I wrote in several days ago because the car began to idle really rough and was jerky in reverse and it wouldn't go over 20 mph. The check engine light came on and when I turned it off there was a carbon smell. I opened the hood and an air intake hose had come loose and was laying next to the air filter. When I slowly drove it to the dealer there was white smoke and hesitation and vibrating up to 20 mph. The dealer said it was a cracked coil and they also recommended replacing the plugs. In addition, they claim the rear main seal is leaking and they're charging $1300 to replace it. There was no oil on the driveway or in the garage. Is it possible to have a critical leak when there is no visible oil loss? Can the rms blow out again if the initial problem was due to something else?
Thanks for your help, Jan

Answer
Jan, if the flame trap or crankcase breather system is plugged, or the intercooler, yes it can happen again. The system is protected by a wastegate/popoff valve that is not supposed to oet turbo pressure go too high. I would want to make sure that they are working correctly first.
If you are not seeing oil residue on the bottom of the vehicle, then the leak cannot be too bad if at all. You will not always see it on the ground unless it's really bad. (Like blown right out)Slide inder the car and take a look yourself. If it'sdry under there, don't worry about it.
