Volvo Repair: gear shift frozen, honest answer, shift lever

My 1999 S80 T6 gear shift lever was frozen in park.  Got it to move into the drive position somewhat forcefully but the illuuminating light still is on in park and the gear is not engaged and now it is completely stuck in that position and won't move

 Bruce, you broke it! Initially, it was probably just the interlock solenoid failing and holding it in park. Now you have disconnected the bulb carrier from the shaft and lord knows what else. Thank you for being honest about forcing it. That way I was able to give YOU a more accurate/honest answer. Most people would just say, "I don't know,it just fell off, or, It was that way when I came out in the morning." Sheesh, people.
   Pull the console/shifter cover and see what's broken.
