Volvo Repair: volvo S70 front brake noise, better business bureau, drum brakes

Question
I had the frt brakes and rotors replaced by the dealer (normal wear and tear during a servce).About a week later when coming to a stop the drivers side made noise similar to metal to metal and the symptoms of brakes saturated with fluid ( as heard on drum brakes with a bad whel cyl. )took it back to the dealer who replaced the pads.Noise went away for awhile and as in the beginning with these new items intermittently sounds like the saturated pads again ( ONLY on the drivers side ) Dealer doesn;t know what to think and basically said "live with it " and they had a problem with the s90 with brakes that was almost identical but could never figure out the problem. My ? do you think the problem is the pads or rotors and should i buy new aftermarket of these items.  THANKS p.s. The dealer said "WE KNOW THE BRAKES/PADS ARE GOOD"

Answer
Mike, don't take that crap from the dealer. Make them fix it right. "live with it" ??? Sheesh!

First, Check the archives for my post about how to do no squeal Volvo brakes. 25+ years of doing them teaches ya some things. If it doesn't, just pull the dirt over yourself. VBG

Basically, my guess is they resurfaced your rotors and did not replace them? If they did, I bet they used non-OE ones to save money. They are not allowed by their franchise agreement to do that, but it happens. Maybe the same with the pads?

Short story, OE pads and rotors only, no aftermarket, disassemble the caliper sliders and clean and lube. Use the pad shims and rattle clips that come with the OE pads and NO anti-squeal paste. They will have to start all over with yours and will not be able to re-use any of the so called, "new" parts they put in as they are contaminated.

If they refuse to get them right for you, contact Volvo of North America and file a complaint. A field rep. should contact you and the offending dealer and straighten it out. If not file a complaint with the better business bureau and the NHTSA. that will light a fire under them!

Let me know how you come out.
