Volvo Repair: electrical harness, sensor replacement, electrical harness

Question
My 88 240 Volvo sedan intermittently won't start. The shop has tried everything (including some type of temperature sensor replacement). When it won't start it is because the the fuel injectors are staying open and basicially flooding the engine (from what I understand). They say to replace the harness, which they believe is the problem is about $1700 for the part alone, since that year has a unique harness, specific to 1988s. Do you have any thoughts on where to find a harness and/or whether it might be something else? Thank you.

Answer
Heidi, no, they are smoking dope.  That harness is only about $450 plus 4 hours at the most for labor.  Its not a 88 specific harness. I can get you an accurate price if you are interested.  What other things did they replace/check?  Roger

Heidi, I stand Corrected.  Just got off the phone with my parts source and yes that thing is $1700.00  My jaw dropped.  I have a call in to another used parts guy and he may be able to help.  Roger
