Volvo Repair: Speedometer/Odometer, vehicle speed sensor, volvo specialist

Question
I have a 1998 Volvo S70.  When I start the car, the speedometer and the
Odometer both work fine for about 5-10 miles.  Then they both  just cease
working.  I am afraid to take it to the dealer because they always kill me on
repair costs of any kind.  Is there a repair I could do myself or is can you tell me
exactly what I need so that I can make the dealer only make that specific repair.

Ali, on this kind of stuff doing things yourself is not possible.  What it sounds like it is, a possible speedo unit itself or possibly a Vehicle speed sensor signal.  Is the check engine light on?  Is there a Volvo specialist in town or just the dealer?  Roger
