Volvo Repair: Volvo 1988 model GL 240 will not start in hot weather, fuel pressure regulator, joe schmoe

Question
Hi Roger, my volvo just will not start when the weather is fairly warm, it tries
to kick over, almost gets there but then fails, once the sun goes down it
seems to be fine, also if I have managed to get the car started I can be
driving along and occasionally the car will loose all its power and basically
turn off, i loose steering, brakes everything. I recently got the car looked at
and the garage guys put 2 new fuel pumps in and a new relay but this hasn't
solved anything. Also a few of the fuses in the car keep blowing, we keep
exchanging them for new ones but they keep blowing, these are the ones for
some of the lights and for the jets on the windscreen. Do you think its one
big electrical problem?

Answer
Kelly, most likely its going to be the coolant temp sensor that is going to be the problem or possible intermittent problem with the fuel pressure regulator.  The electrical problems would have to be looked at and a few tests performed.  Sounds like the washer pump wires are touching.   Are you taking the car to a Volvo shop or Joe Schmoe's garage?  Roger
