Volvo Repair: vol;vo240 rear seat latch, seat bottom, pivot points

Question
QUESTION: Just bought a 1987 240 wagon and cannot get the rear seat back latch to release seat.  I pull up real hard on latch and have had someone else bump the seat back with a 2x4 on each side but no release!

ANSWER:     Robert, you will have to get at latches at the bottom rear of the seat corners. You'll have to trip/release them manually. Probably with a screwdriver. HTH

QUESTION: It's the passenger seat back that won't release.  Pulling up on the latch near the top of the seat back will not release the catches on each side.  I have the passenger seat bottom released and folded forward.  I checked the similar seat back release on my '88 740 wagon and it reeases the catch fine.

Answer
Robert, Same answer. I understand it's the back. You have to go to the bottom of the seat at the pivot points, On the sides, and manually release the latches. Or remove the seat back cover to accesss the linkage and see what broke. Repair as necessary. HTH
