Volvo Repair: 1992 240 Speedo/Instrument Cluster Removal, instrument cluster, soldering iron

Question
Hi, I've been having issues with my speedometer not working properly, and can't quite figure out how to remove the Instrument cluster to get to it.  My father has a 1991 wagon and had the same issue, and thinks he can fix it, we just can't get to it.

When I drive my speedo will work... half way.  When it says 20 mph I'm going ~40.  Dad seems to think it's a connection problem, since he had similar issues a few years ago that fixed when he tightened the connections (with a soldering iron).

Any advice/help would be appreciated,
Gretchen

Answer
Gretchen, Have your dad remove the 2 square cover pieces to the right of the cluster, also to the left of the cluster remove the light switch knob and the dimmer knob.  Remove that cover.  Now you have access to the screws and the cluster just pulls out.  Most likely its not a connection problem but an actual speedometer head failure.  I offer this repair service as well as cluster customizing.  Let me know if you are interested.  Roger
