Volvo Repair: volvo keeps stalling out and wont start, fuel pump relay, volvo 240

Question
lately we have been experiencing problems with our volvo 240 - 1991. at
first the car would diesel, and lurch forward repeatedly when at low speeds or
when we stopped. if we were unlucky the car would then stall out on us, and wouldn't start again. this problem usually occurred in wet weather, but then
stated occurring more often in any weather. this made driving the bloody
thing hard, and nerve-wreaking. now the car will not start at all and we do
need to get it back on the road. any advice or solutions would be very, very
helpful

thank you for your time

Answer
Albert, well, I would start with the basic stuff like cap, rotor, plugs, wires, etc.  Its may be a fuel issue.  Unfortunately without looking at the car and doing a few tests, this one is almost impossible to diagnose from this end.  Check to see if timing belt broke and check the fuel pump relay and fuses.  Other than that, a Volvo shop would need to get involved.  Roger
