Volvo Repair: volvo 850 loses pressure at red lights/stop signs, fuel pressure gauge, volvo 850 glt

Question
my 1996 volvo 850 glt loses pressure and cuts off when I slow down and or come to a stop sometimes. My mechanic replaced vac hoses and lines but now it shuts off more frequently. He now says the check engine code says it's the air flow meter. I'm going to have him replace the meter but he also says IF that doesn't work then it's the idol air control valve. Is this a common problem? and if so, will replacing the air flow meter fix it?

Answer
Kev, Not likely.  The 850 has a problem with the fuel pump.  I would have the mechanic use a test light while driving to see if the tank unit is losing power.  Also a fuel pressure gauge test will help.  Air mass meter codes pop up and the meter does fail but in this instance, its not likely.  Idle control valve on these rarely fail.  Roger
