Volvo Repair: 94 940 non turbo trouble shifting, turbo trouble, volvo 940

i have a 94 volvo 940 non turbo and i have troble shifting.it goes into 1st gear no problem but after that i have to let up on the gas at around 3500 rpms to get it to shift into the other gears. it has around 163,000 miles on it and i have no record of the last time the transmission has been serviced. i hope you can help me with this

Rob, sounds like the kickdown cable may need some adjusting or is stuck.  Drain and fill the trans at the same time you do an oil change and it will catch up to itself as far as fluid color goes.  Do NOT do a power flush service.  Your transmission will fail in less than a thousand miles.  I've seen it happen.  Hope this helped.  Roger
