Volvo Repair: 2000 Volvo S80 T6, SRS light says urgent, volvo s80 t6, 2000 volvo s80 t6

Question
Out of the blue the message unit in my 2000 S80 suddenly told me to get my SRS system serviced urgently, so I went to the dealer and at a cost of $185 I was informed as follows "124384 Verified SRS light on.  DTC SRS-0115.  Control module internal fault. Internal fault in the SRS Control Module.  Rec; SRS Control module and insulator.  Fault code is not to be erased.  Control module has to retrun [sic] to Volvo with fault code store as is."  The quote for this repair was over $1,000, including a new "sensor" (part. no. 8645271 @ $580) and insulator (no. 9441711 @ $54), plus labor including software reloading.  There was no accident or other impact that I recall causing this incident, and certainly the airbags did not deploy.

There are some services on the web that say they reset SRS modules.  Can or should I just get my old one reset by one of these outfits, or if not would an old unit pulled from a used Volvo work (does year and model make a difference)?   Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Answer
Ron, What the bozos should have done is cleared it for you and see if it comes back on again.  Its against the law to sell used SRS components so I would not buy one.  $185.00 to scan a car is highway robbery.  I would find an independent Volvo shop that can help you.  If you need help locating one, let me know.  Roger
