Volvo Repair: remote for keys, pirelli tires, ebay

QUESTION: Just purchased 2004 xc70 and only has one key/remote. If I were to purchase one of these remotes on ebay can it be reprogrammed? If not any idea how much one of these units cost with key? Anything I need to beware of as a potential problem with the xc70, has 55000 mile on it and it is a turbo. Thanks for any assistance.

ANSWER: Keith, I wish you would have asked me about the XC before you bought it.  The good news is you bought a later model one.  The earlier ones were horrible.  I wouldnt buy one from EBay.  Those units are useless.  You need to get one from the dealer because it has the code and can be programmed.  Without the code, the unit is useless and you will be wasting your money.  It also has to be programmed at the dealer.  Keep up with your services.  The XC's are all Turbo's.  Good Engine.  AWD units are the expensive things that eventually go out.  Any other questions, let me know.   Roger

Keith, Consumer reports is the biggest joke.  They dont work on these cars on a daily basis.  Like I said, The 04 is better than the earlier ones.  You will start seeing stupid stuff starting to go wrong when the car starts getting milage on them.  Trim pieces, brakes, some A/C issues, and front end wear and tear.  The Pirelli tires need to be replaced soon.  They are junk.  Maybe you will get lucky with that one.  Take Care and Merry Christmas to you.  Roger
