Volvo Repair: 240 timing, bolt lengths, flywheel

Question
recently changed the clutch and flywheel on my sons 91 240 and aparently put the flywheel on incorrectly. the engine runs rough and occasionally dies on stop. also harder to start than before. I checked lots of things before I checked the timing which was way off I'm guessing I have the flywheel one hole off

Answer
Bob, yes, one tooth off will allow it to run as you describe. Sucks to have to go back in there. As I've mentioned before, MARK EVERYTHING yourself as to orientation before removing items. Good idea to keep track of proper bolt lengths to. Saw one guy but too long a bolt in a mount, cranked it down and cracked the block. VBG
