QUESTION: to set the timing with a timing light do i need to unplug anything such as the iac valve which controlls the idle, or put car in drive. thanks.

ANSWER:    Pull and plug the vac. advance line. Then let her rip!

QUESTION: thanks for your answer, but i have a regina system with no egr valve. There are no vacuum lines to pull that i see to do this as the ecu controls the timming, i did unplug the idle contol valve and noted timming mark @ 12degrees btdc. when i hooked it back up timming mark was now at ten and a half degrees,and when the distibutor was moved in either direction no change. thanks

  Bill, Regina, you poor SOB. VBG Not a great system, but works. Pull dist. cap and line up TDC and then set dist. to slot/line cut into the edge of the top of the distributor body where the cap sets. That's it. No further adjustments possible.
