Volvo Repair: V70XC 2001 model, car spa, tow truck driver

Question
QUESTION: I sent my car for a CAR SPA 2 weeks ago. Upon receiving the car, I started to notice that it occasionally felt like there was no power i.e. when I stepped on the accelerator the speed did not pick up satisfactorily. A few days ago this happened again and the car speed finally dropped to zero despite the rev going up to about 700. About 1 hour later, when the tow truck came, the tow truck driver was able to drive the car up the ramp into the tow truck and there was no problem. The car is in the workshop now and my mechanic has suggested I change the gear box! Can you please advise?

ANSWER:   Choo, what is a "Car Spa"? I assume some kind of a detail shop? Did they power wash the engine bay etc.? Tell me exactly what the service entailed.

QUESTION: I have confirmed with the workshop manager that the CAR SPA included a wiping of the engine, no wash using strong water jets were used. The rest included cleaning up the car interior and polishing of the exterior of the car.

Answer
Choo, I would take it back to them and make them rectify it. There is no way you can clean an engine by "wiping" it off. usually a chemical degreaser is applied first, then high pressure hot water or steam is used to remove the grime.
My suspicion is that water/steam has infiltrated the throttle actuator assembly. Either way, it didn't so it before, right?
