Volvo Repair: Volvo XC90 Yaw rate sensor replacement, yaw rate sensor, volvo xc90

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2005 XC90 and think the Yaw rate sensor needs
replacement.  Can not find the part number or exact
location for the part.  I think it is under drivers seat,
also read about possibly using a used one.  Still can not
find one online anywhere or even a Volvo part number...nor
diagram about where the rascal is...  Your input would be
greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Jim

ANSWER:   Jim, what are the symptoms and codes? I've never seen one fail or had to service one. I know on some models the are integral to the ECU. O-wise they would have to be near the centerline of the vehicle to be effective.

QUESTION: Hi Mark thanks for getting back to me, I had a message
flash on the reader that said something about brake
failure.  I took to Volvo and they said they needed to
unplug the sunroof drains, dry the carpets and replace Yaw
Sensor + upgrade software.  (I found a nice article on
how to unplug the roof and hope to do that this weekend) I
was reading on the Volvo forum about another fellow with
the same problem, who had fixed it himself... I couldn't
get an email to him... So it sounds like after reading his
statements plus the wet carpet thing that it must be down
somewhere down low probably under the seats...????  Total
bid for everything was $1.000...ouch...hence my starting to
email questions... His comments were on volvoforums.org.uk
and his handle is Armaheadon...  when I search Google for
Yaw sensor xc90 it pops up...  I apologize for bothering
you and please don't waste much time with this... Volvo
supposedly pulled it out and cleaned it up, plus lubed the
fitting..(what they said) than went on to tell me his
experience the fix will not probably last more than a month
or so...  Go figure...  Well anything you can do to help
would be wonderfully appreciated.   Thanks, Jim Weaver

Answer
Remove the amp unit under the seat , first thing to do is check for evidence of a water leak , this should be addressed before you do (anything else) , if there is a sign of leakage it is most likely the sunroof drains. (Sound familiar?)
The sensor is held in with 2 bolts , it takes a little wiggling to get out , DO NOT BEND THE BRACKET .
Depending on the code you had yaw sensor problems can be fixed with a simple vibration damper.
Hope this helps.
If you replace it, be sure to install the vibration dampner upgrade.
Search harder, try Volvo Yaw Sensor in Google. There are replacements for @ $100.00 Us and places that rebuild them.
