Volvo Repair: Car wont start, crank sensor, sitting in the rain

Question
I am having trouble starting my 1989 740 GL when it rains. (Never before had this problem)The car runs great and starts well otherwise. (I owned it for 9 years) It would not start a few weeks ago in a soft rain when in my driveway so I pushed in in the garage and two days later tried and it started right up. It appeared the battery that was 8 years old was some of the cause so I replaced it. Here I am a few weeks later and it won't start again after sitting in the rain (on a level surface). I have been keeping the car in the garage since the starting problem at home. Now the car cranks fine but just won't start. This time it left me about 20 miles from home. Any ideas?

Answer
Bob, sounds like the car doesnt like getting wet.  This may be a simple distributor cap, wires and plug issue.  You also may be having a crank sensor or relay problem.  Unfortunately without seeing the car and doing a few tests, Its impossible for me to pinpoint the problem for you.  Roger
