Volvo Repair: 1987 740 volvo sedan, mass air meter, vacuum leaks

Question
I have a 1987 740 Volvo 4 cylinder. which is idling at 1,100 rpm when in park. I have adjusted the idling adjustment screw, changed the air control valve, adjusted the timing as best I could, changed mass air meter, I have not found any vacuum leaks. Now, the radiator has a thermoswitch but, the coating on the wires is coming off. I tried the test by placing the two wires together and nothing happened. The engine did not change speeds. When I unplug the mass air mass meter the idle adjusts down and when I replace the plug it goes back to the 1100 rpm. Temp gage in the dash works. How do I find out if I have the EZ-K ignition? What else can I do?

Answer
If you have an air mass meter then you have an EZK-116 Igntion system.  That thermoswitch is for the electric fan in front of the rad.  If nothing happened then the motor is bad.  Does your car have the black mixture knob on the throtle body?  Some do and some do not.  Sounds like you have done everything right.  Did you adjust the throtle linkage?  Roger
