Volvo Repair: 2003 Volvo V40, automatic climate control, upholstery shops

Question
QUESTION: First, in the last week my A/C system has been stuck on.  I have twisted the fan position, and the fan continues to blow.  Even after changing the temperature gauge, the fan blows from cold to hot, but the fan will not stop blowing.  Is there an easy fix for this problem, without heading to the dealer?  The car has 50,000 miles and I am the second owner.

Second,  the headliner in the far back of the vehicle has come loose in two spots in the trunk area of the car.  Does the whole thing have to be replaced or is there another option for the repair?

Thank you for the help!

Geof

ANSWER:   Geoff, is it the ECC (automatic) climate control?

Any reputable upholstry shop should be able to pull the headliner and reglue the fabric. In MN, it is $125-175. HTH

QUESTION: The knob on the far left with the 0 . 1 . 2. 3. etc is the one that when placed on the 0 setting continues to blow, if the outside temperature is cool enough the A/C light shuts off on the vehicle, but the fan continues to blow.

Are there Upholstery Shops for cars only, or will I find this after talking to my local repair shop?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!

Answer
Geof, I still do not know if that is an ECC system. Sounds like no? I would look at the switch first. The 0,1,2,3 one. If it is ECC look at the power stage. (An electronic box that controls blower speeds.

Yes, there are upholtery shops that specialize in automotive. Look under automotive/upholstery in your yellow pages. An auto only shop will be more familiar with the process, do a better job, and probably cost you less. A referral from a shop you trust is even better.
