Volvo Repair: Heated Mirror, black tabs, mirror question

Question
QUESTION: I drive a Volvo 1998 C70 convert.  The driver's side outside mirror does not heat up although the passenger side and rear windows do. What might the possible cause of this be?

Thanks

ANSWER: Garth, most likely the actual mirror glass is bad.  There are heating elements in there.  I've seen it happen before.  Roger

QUESTION: Thanks Roger.  I'm relatively handy with mechanical repairs.  Would I be easily able to remove and replace the mirror glass myself and if so, can you describe the procedure?

Thanks very much

ANSWER: Garth, those are fairly easy.  They just pop on and off but you need to be careful with the tabs.  Just put the mirror to the furthest position and you can see the tabs that come off the mirror glass.  The rest is just using 2 small screwdrivers and pushing up on the tabs.  Roger

QUESTION: Thanks Roger.  I adjusted the mirror to its furthest postion but was not able to see the white tabs.  Are these tabs located around the perimeter of the mirror back or more towards the centre of the mirror?

My Volvo-experienced mechanic seems to think that on the C70 '98, a different more complex system was used.

Answer
Garth, Tell this experienced Guy that no its not.  Its the same as the 960 and 70 series with heated mirrors.  There is no white tabs.  You can see the black tabs from the mirror glass go onto the motor assembly.  all you need to do is pry 2 tabs up and the glass will come out.  Roger
