Volvo Repair: speedometer, speedometer shop, volvo repair

Question
Hi,
I own a 1988 Volvo 240DL Sedan.
several months ago, my speedometer started going nuts. it works, then it doesn't, usually whenever I hit a bump or I accelerate past 55 mph. But more recently, it doesn't work more than it does. I heard this could be something to do with a loose hose or old hose - pressure to the speedometer? And not necessarily an electrical problem. Could this be correct? one is obviously much cheaper than the other. thx.

Answer
Sonia, Most likely its the speedometer head itself but it may be a loose connection Pressure to the speedometer?  Who told you that?  This model year is an electronic speeodmeter with speed sensor in the differential.  This needs to be looked at by a speedometer shop or Volvo repair shop.  Roger
