Volvo Repair: 1991 Volvo 740 Std Wagon shuts off, fuel pump relay, volvo 740

Question
The car looses throttle and shuts off. From my observation, this can happen anytime and there is no sequence. When attempted to start after shut off, it cranks, but does not start immediately. After some attempts and a time gap, it eventually starts up and runs fine. I am not very knowledgeable about cars, but after talking to a few people the opinion was the fuel pump may be going bad. I wanted to know if you had come across such problems in this model of Volvos. For your information the Volvo has run nearly 300000 miles.

Answer
Naveen, 300,000 miles, GOOD Volvo! You need to determine if you are losing spark or fuel during the event.

Common problems are ignition module(spark) pre pump and main pump. Typically the pre-pump goes first. Occasionally, fuel pump relay. All these are all heat related events. Not first start in the morning stuff. See related posts in the archives.
